A Singapore GP clinic operating 3 locations — in Jurong West, Clementi, and Buona Vista — had built a solid patient base over 8 years. Their actual patient satisfaction was high. Their Google rating told a different story: 3.8 stars across their main clinic and 4.0 across the two smaller locations.

Three 1-star reviews across their profiles were dragging the ratings down. A deeper look revealed a pattern that pointed strongly to competitor activity.

The Challenge

For healthcare businesses in Singapore, a sub-4.0 Google rating is commercially significant. Patients selecting a GP clinic for their family typically filter by rating before reviewing services or location.   • Reviewer 2: A profile with 2 reviews. One 1-star review of the clinic. One 5-star review of a direct competitor. Account created 3 weeks before the review was posted. High probability of a fake account created for this purpose.
  • Reviewer 3: The review referenced a specific doctor by name and described a treatment that did not correspond to any treatment the clinic offers. False factual claim plus likely misattributed (intended for a different clinic with a similar name).

Each review was mapped to a specific Google policy violation: conflicts of interest (Reviewers 1 and 2) and false factual claims with potential misattribution (Reviewer 3).

Removal Outcome

Epicware submitted formal removal requests through Google's business support channel — not the flag button — with documented evidence for each review. The submissions cited the exact policy violations, included the reviewer profile screenshots showing the conflict of interest patterns, and for Reviewer 3, included the clinic's treatment menu showing the referenced procedure was not offered.

All three reviews were removed within 3 weeks of submission. The main clinic's rating moved from 3.8 to 4.3 immediately — the jump from removing three 1-star reviews against a base of 38 total reviews was significant.

Review Generation: Building the New Baseline

With the fake reviews removed, Epicware launched a review generation campaign across all three clinic locations. What Happened With Patient Inquiries

The clinic operator reported a noticeable increase in new patient enquiries from Google Maps in the month after the rating crossed 4.5 — which they attributed to the improved Maps rank and the higher star rating visible in search results.
